On Friday, March 14, the San Francisco International Asian American Film
Festival (SFIAAFF) opened up with a bang with their annual music night @ 111
Minna Gallery. This year, SFIAAFF's "Direction in Sound" event features the
Azalea Boutique Spring Fashion Show! The Azalea crew had loads of fun as usual.
Producing a 15 minute fashion show takes weeks of hard work—planning, casting models, styling,
picking and assigning outfits, agreeing on a hair and makeup theme, staging and music!
With an all Asian American model cast, we featured spring trends for girls from pop color to
feminine dresses to high-waisted jeans. For the guys we sent graphic tees, crisp button-downs,
selvedge denim, cardigans, and lightweight jackets down the runway.
Brette, the show's coordinator & stylist rose to the occasion and did an amazing job putting it all
together while looking just as fabulous as ever! Now that's a lot of STYLE. For those of you who
watched the show, we hope you enjoyed it! If you missed it, watch the video clip here!
There’s just never enough prep time! While some models are getting their hair done, others are trying on clothes, some are grabbing a bite (chicken tacos, hey, we don't want them to pass out on the runway!), it’s so hectic!
The Elevation Salon crew was just awesome with hair and makeup, we
can't thank them enough! Working a fashion show, stylists are working every second under the gun from start to finish. Being fast, efficient, creative and resourceful is a must as handling each model requires a degree of improvisation. All this in a dark gallery, our stylists were amazing!
The hair theme for the girls was volume, with lots of bouncy waves. Asian
girls tend to have silkier hair so it’s a bit of a challenge to pull off
curls quickly. But, these hair artists were amazing! By the time they were
done, all the girls are had curls with enough bounce for the entire night! As
for the guys, it was much easier. Asian dudes come with spik-ey hair just like we wanted it so with a dime-size dollop of wax and a light puff of loose powder, they were ready to go!
We cast the models from a list of volunteers provided by SFIAAFF. We had
10 models, 5 guys and 5 girls, they were all super cute! Three of them we lost in the beginning because they were under 21 and couldn’t get into the venue—111 Minna is REALLY STRICT on the underage policy, which is understandable but it definitely caught us off guard. Luckily, one of the models, Jaime Chiang, gave us a plan B with two gorgeous friends who came on short notice. What a save, thank you Jaime!!!
We loved the models. They were all really fabulous, beautiful, and had such
great attitudes! They really set the tone for a great show.
